Questions? We Have Answers!
Where is drop-off?
Priest Point Park, Olympia, 9am
At one of the above shelters. For summer, preschool is on the east side of the bridge (up the hill from the rose garden). Currently summer camps are meeting in the shelters down towards the water.
Please note that arriving on time is important as we do go on hikes together as a group, at which point it will be much more challenging to find us.
Where should I park?
Please park in any of the available spots near the bathroom or in the gravel before the shelter. Please do not stop in the middle of the road. The road loops around if you need to approach the shelter again. Please remember that is road is a one-way.
Why do we sign in and out?
This allows us to keep track of how many kids are at program, and who their contact may be for the day. As we are taking responsibility for the participant, we need to know who we should call in case of an issue, as well as who will be picking up your child that day. If you are going to be late, please contact Heather to let us know. Also, please be sure to grab ALL of your participant's belongings when you leave. We will do our best to keep track of your youth's belongings, though it gets challenging as we do not have a storage unit on site and items end up in instructor's cars if found.
What do I do if my child is sick?
Please let us know that your child will not be joining us at ACORNS NW on said scheduled day so that we are able to begin our program as soon as possible. We ask that your child has been symptom free for at least 24 hours before sending them back to forest school.
What do I do if there is a family emergency and need to pick up early?
Please call Heather to let us know. Also, it is helpful and at times important to get the phone number of at least one staff member so you'll be able to contact them in times of need. In case of a group emergency in the park, we will meet in the rose garden shelter for easy access and pick-up.
We have special pick up arrangements - what do we do?
We need to know if you will be picking up early or having someone new pick up the ACORNS NW participant. Please include the person's full name and phone number on the sign-in sheet and send Heather a message at acornsnw@gmail.com. We ask that you please check in with staff before dropping off any car seats or extensive supplies - not all of our staff have vehicles to safely store these items. In such cases, these items may limit the teachers' ability to deliver their curriculum plan for the day, such as traveling by foot around the park.
How do we spot the group?
Preschool Program will hang sometimes hang an "ACORNS NW" banner above the shelter where they meet. Because we are a mobile program, we do not bring an extensive amount of materials. If you see one or two adults in the described shelters, you are encouraged to inquire if they are the staff for ACORNS NW.
When do you cancel program? When are your program breaks?
We generally follow the cancellations of the Olympia School District. That said, if there is high wind or ongoing thunder and lightning or other threatening weather, we may cancel. Please follow our Facebook and Instagram for the most up to date information!
